The next step is shredding and separating. Old tires go through an intensive shredding process that strips away the steel belting and fiber materials from the rubber. This allows the valuable rubber compound to be isolated from the other components.
PROCESSING
Finally, rubber can be processed into smaller granular pieces called crumb rubber, which are then repurposed into new molded products or used as ground covering for playgrounds and tracks. Tire-derived fuel and tire-derived aggregate are additional valuable applications for recycled rubber.
